Our South Seas collection Collection are handcrafted wall tiles and wall panels 100% inlaid with South Sea shells.

Each shell piece (tessera) is cut into a consistent geometric shape according to the overall pattern of the tile. It is inlaid onto its backing and is painstakingly hand polished to bring out the iridescent nacre and intricate and unique natural patterns of the shells.

The shell tessera are inlaid on ceramic, resin mesh or fibreglass backings to create tiles to allow easy installation. Each tile is finished to a high specification with a smooth and consistent final surface while nonetheless presenting the unique natural beauty of each shell piece that it contains. The tessera can however also be supplied as a thin-backed veneer for inlay into a client’s own design, for example as a component in marquetry or other decorative work.

The product complements most materials providing a natural corruscating inlay when used with other tiles or with wood (particularly dark woods such as ebony or walnut) or stone.

The tiles have been used by contract furnishers, architects, specifiers and interior designers in a variety of settings including luxury residences, yachts and hotels.

They are available in a range of sizes and patterns to suit many installations.
